in this weeks lecture we looked at some aspects of other peoples works as well as learning about concrete, steel and brick and the different components used to make them and what they are used for.
Concrete: concrete is made from mainly water, aggregate and cement, however other chemicals and materials are used to help bind the materials together. concrete can be damaged by freezing water, fire, sea effects, corrosion, weathering, physical damage and chemical damage.concrete is used in damns, breakwaters, pavements, buildings and various other objects. the production of cement, which is used in concrete, is a primary producer of carbon dioxide and greenhouse gasses. concrete can cause water pollution and can cause soil erosion. A pro of concrete is that it is sturdy and can last a very long time, (Concrete structures can also last as long as 16000 years.) however some negatives are that it cracks easily, is susceptible to moisture and expands and contracts with changes in temperature.

Steel: Steel is an alloy made of iron and carbon. it is a hard, ductile and strong material that is used for building skyscraper, bridges, cars and household appliances. However steel can rust due to oxidation and the steel frames in buildings can last up to 80 years. the steel industry creates many greenhouse gasses due to its use of coal. The steel industry has and is playing a huge role in infrastructural and economic development.

Brick: brick is made by kneading clay bearing soil, sand and concrete material. Ii is used in buildings, pavements and other structures. some pros of bricks is that they are aesthetically pleasing and there is an abundance of the materials that make it. however bricks do not stand very well against earthquakes and other natural events and due to weathering and erosion can become brittle and break easily. brick can have a lifespan of up to 500 years.

this weeks lecture was an introduction into the second experiment and we just looked through different buildings and areas that are meant to try and help inspire us on what to do for our experiment
21st century museum of contempory art, SANAA 2004: the building is circular and has various other polygons protruding from the top of the site

Sao Paulo Museum of Contempory Art, LINA BO BARDI 1957-68: the building is rectangular and looks like it is being held up by 4 legs
Brazilian museum of Sculpture , Paulo Mendes da Rocha 1988-94: the building looks like it has an artificial roof over one part of it. it seems as though it is plain and has barely any features

week 6 lecture

in the lecture we talked about flow graphs, and learnt how to use them, create them, and put them into entities. this relates to my work since i had to hide my HUD and guns while filming the trailer.

problem

i don't know how to link my zipped folder onto blogger

Project: Micro and Macro

My number was 6 and my letter was d

There is a d shaped mound and 6 legs to the island

There is a d shaped road

 There are 6 ruins
There is a D shaped reflection in the water right above ^^ in the middle
The river is shaped like a d with 6 rocks protruding from the middle
 There are 6 twisted trees
There are 4 logs and when i stand at that angle creates 6 long objects (2 legs)
The fishing rods create a 6 in roman numerals
There are 6 letter d's in the mountain

week 5 lecture

in the lecture we talked about the subliminal and how to hide and make our letter and number combination not as direct and straight forward as just writing it out. this helps me for my island as i now know how to make the letters and numbers less visible

Full draft of outcomes

The Sublime: i don't know if my island compares to Helda Pinto's in terms of development but i believe that it is still sophisticated

The Strategy: I think that i did show a distinctive and significant approach in revealing and concealing my numbers and letters

the Subliminal: I didn't just show the numbers and letters all the time

5 Scales: there is a range from macro to micro

The Trailer: i need to represent my island in a distinctive and significant way
my strategy for concealing the numbers and letters in my island is just to see what the terrain and features look like and the sculpt the combination of letters and number into the terrain. as well as this i am going to be placing different items strategically to help show these numbers and letters
